Appeal: Supporters of former corporater Amudha Gopi Chander, demanding that ticket be given to her, in Bangalore on Sunday. BANGALORE: All was quiet on a hot Sunday afternoon as the “ticket theatre”, particularly that of the Congress, had shifted to Delhi. Many newshounds covering elections did not expect any great thing to happen, but the “news” of a stone-throwing incident at the Congress office situated at Queen’s Road set the media in motion. They rushed towards the office but all that they could see was a group of distraught Congressmen holding a demonstration in support of their leader who was apparently not given ticket to contest in the Assembly elections. The media brigade went round the office looking for shattered glass, broken windowpanes and injured employees of the office, but when they found nothing of the sort they asked one of the demonstrators there who had no knowledge of such an incident. Even the police on duty there did not have any knowledge about stone-throwing. Then came the volley from one of the protesters “if we had not floated this news no one from the media would have come.” After receiving enquiries from the press, the police had sent a team to investigate. Joint Commissioner of Police Gopal Hosur confirmed that there was no stone-throwing at the Congress’ office.
