“Frequent quarrels between husband and wife” “The two had an argument on the fateful day” NEW DELHI: Twenty-six-year-old Nitin Verma arrested on charges of stabbing his parents and pregnant wife Pooja to death at Palam over the weekend was sent to 14 days judicial custody by a court here on Sunday. The accused, who worked for a private firm in Karol Bagh, has purportedly told the police that he was having an affair with his neighbour which soured his relations with Pooja. It led to frequent quarrels between the husband and wife. On the fateful day, the two again had a heated argument when Nitin returned home in the evening. In a fit of rage, he stabbed his wife several times and also killed his mother Pushpa Verma when she rushed upstairs on hearing Pooja’s screams, the police said. He then stabbed his 56-year-old paralytic father Vinod Verma, a telephone operator, when he intervened. The gruesome murder was first noticed by Mr. Verma’s neighbour Ravinder who found the three bodies lying in a pool of blood. Mr. Verma’s body was found on the ground floor while the body of his 50-year-old wife Pushpa was found on the staircase and that of his 26-year-old daughter-in-law Pooja, a school teacher, on the first floor. The contradictory statements made by Nitin Verma made him the prime suspect and eventually he confessed to having committed the murders, the police said.Nitin had told the police that he sustained injuries in an accident near Buddha Garden when he was while returning from office. He later said that three masked men attacked them inside the house and injured him. The statements made by the accused were not supported by his cell phone details and the scene of crime making him a suspect. When subjected to sustained interrogation, he later purportedly confessed to having committed the murders.
