Three killed in road accidents

TAMBARAM: Three persons were killed in separate road accidents near Tambaram on Saturday.
Near the Kannadalapayam garbage dumping yard of Tambaram Municipality, Kondal Rao (22) was killed on the spot when a lorry, behind which he was standing, backed up suddenly. The victim, cleaner of the lorry, was a resident of East Tambaram. He had gone to the dump yard along with other crew members of the vehicle.
In another accident, Perumal, a daily wage earner, was killed after he was hit by an unknown vehicle on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road near MIT Bridge, Chromepet. A resident of Tambaram Sanatorium, he was crossing the road near the bridge when the accident took place around 8 p.m.
And in Pallikaranai, a 43-year-old man was killed on the spot after being hit by a speeding lorry on Velachery Main Road. Palani, the victim, was a daily wage earner and was returning home in Periyar Nagar, when the accident took place around 9 p.m.
Run over by train
Kuppusamy (55) was run over by an electric train while he was crossing the railway track near the Urapakkam station. A resident of Otteri village near Vandalur, Kuppusamy died on the spot. The train was shuttling between Tambaram and Chengalpattu around 6 p.m., the railway police said.
