Guadalajara (Jalisco): Mexico has sought larger collaboration with India in information technology, medical tourism and in cinematography particularly in multimedia and animation. It is looking forward to signing a cooperation treaty with India for mutual exchange in science and technology and in creation of software technology parks. At a reception he hosted in the honour of visiting President Pratibha Patil, Jalisco (Spanish for Mexico) Governor Emilio Gonzalez Marquez invoked Gandhiji and Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen to underscore India and Mexico’s common goal of development based on liberty, for the eradication of poverty, ignorance, sickness and inequalities. Emphasising India’s participation in Mexico’s economy, the Governor noted the presence of Tata Consultancy Services in this city of roses, famous for tequila — Mexico’s famous spirit drink made from distilled juices of the agave tequilana weber blue variety. The city is also famous for Mariachi dance and the Hospico Cabana, world famous for murals painted by Jose Clemente Orozco. With focus on information technology, it is emerging as the Silicon Valley of Mexico. Mr. Marquez said investment and technology were two basic levers in the growth and development of the two nations. “With politics focused towards investment promotion, to the adaptation and creation of technologies, we will be able to create more and better, jobs, which at the end will have a bearing on the lives of families in India and Jalisco [Mexico].” Governor Marquez, who is said to be the most powerful man in Mexico after President Felipe Calderon, accorded a warm and traditional welcome to President Patil and her delegation. Vegetarian lunchAs a special gesture he hosted a totally vegetarian lunch for President and treated her to a special performance of Mariachi dance. On Saturday, Ms. Patil’s husband, Devisingh Shekhawat, who is accompanying her, celebrated his 71st birthday. In their high level closed door meeting, Ms. Patil invited investors to explore the Indian market to achieve the goal of bilateral trade of $ 5 billion by 2010. Governor Marquez highlighted the common points of interest between India and Mexico in the electronic sector, software development, biotechnology, residue treatment and pollution, textile industry, aerospace technology including services with collaboration in science and technology, education and human resource development as the underlying theme. Accepting Ms. Patil’s invitation to visit India later this year, Mr. Marquez said he would visit India shortly accompanied by a business delegation. Recognising Guadalajara’s fame as a tourist’s delight, Ms. Patil said that even in business and education the State had made exceptional progress.
