India, Australia joint third

NEW DELHI: Heavy showers, accompanied by a typhoon, forced the abandonment of the match between India and Australia for the third place in the Asia-Oceania World junior under-14 tennis championship at Shenzen, China, on Saturday.

The teams were declared joint third, while host China and Korea shared the first place. All four have qualified for the World Group final in the Czech Republic in August.

Meanwhile, the Indian team, led by coach Shalini Thakur with Ratnika Batra, Natasha Palha and Prarthana Thombre as the members, reached the same venue for the girls’ event.

India has been clubbed with host China, Malaysia and Singapore in Group ‘B.’ It is scheduled to take on Malaysia in the first match on Monday.
