Life convict found dead inside prison

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Kamal Shah, life convict in the sensational “Parvathi Shah murder case” was found dead inside the Central Prison here on Monday.

As per the complaint given to the Grand Bazaar Police Station by the jail authorities, Shah was found dead inside the cell at around 3 p.m.

A team of officials from the Revenue Department led by Sub Divisional Magistrate Vijayakumar Bidhuri inspected the prison and conducted an inquest.

Officials in the team said Shah was found lying in a pool of blood with deep cut around his neck in the neighbouring cell.

The weapon used should have been a sharp one, they said, adding that only a thorough probe could ascertain whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

“We are looking into all angles and not ruling out the possibility of murder,” a senior official in the Revenue Department told The Hindu.

He was the prime accused in the rape and murder of Parvathi Shah, wife of his brother, Ravi Shah in 1999. The case became sensational after police first registered a case of murder for gain.
