DYFI plans amity campaign

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: The Democratic Youth Front of India (DYFI) would take on the extremist-mafia alliance in the district which had fomented communal trouble in Kasaragod recently, DYFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh has said.

At a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Rajesh said the DYFI would embark upon a mass contact programme to restore confidence among the public in Kasaragod and to isolate those involved in creating trouble. DYFI volunteers would visit all houses in Kasargod town and would distribute pamphlets aimed at creating communal amity, Mr. Rajesh said.

Parade

A white volunteer parade would be held in the town from Thalangara to Kasaragod beach on April 29, Mr. Rajesh said. It would be followed by a people’s vigilance meet on May 4, said Mr. Rajesh. As many as 20,000 youth are expected to participate in the meeting, he said. Political, social and cultural leaders in the State are expected to participate in the meeting, Mr. Rajesh said.

He demanded that all believers and cultural leaders in the district disown violence and communal hatred campaign. Mr. Rajesh lauded the police for controlling the violence in the town. According to him it was the strict action taken by the police which helped to control the violence quickly.

He expressed the belief that the ongoing police investigations would expose the nexus between mafia elements and communal forces who were behind the recent violence here. Mr. Rajesh said those killed in the recent violence had little connection with communal organisations and were innocent people who fell victims to the designs of criminals. There were very poor people among those who were hit by violence, he said.
