Resurvey to be completed in three years Efforts on to distribute land to the landless
KASARAGOD: The second battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allotted to north Kerala would be stationed at Kasaragod, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has said. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mr. Rajendran said the District Collector had been asked to identify land for the proposed CRPF station. The Minister also informed that the Thrissur District Collector had been asked to identify land for the Border Security Force (BSF) unit allotted to the State. On the efforts of the State government to control the land mafia in the State and punish those rackets involved in creating fake title deeds, Mr. Rajendran said the government had intensified efforts to complete resurvey of land. The resurvey would be completed in three years, he said. The government would provide all help to officials to complete it in time, Mr. Rajendran added. The Minister said the government had intensified efforts to distribute land to all landless among the scheduled tribes in the State. Special grama sabhas would be convened from May onwards as a part of efforts to solve the issue of distribution of land to tribals, Mr. Rajendran said. After distribution of land, the government would implement a project to construct homes for on the land given to them, he informed. Regarding the issue of distribution of land identified as excess land to landless people in the State, Mr. Rajendran said vast areas of land identified as excess land could not be distributed because of legal tangles. He said steps would be taken to arrive at a decision on cases pending before land boards at the earliest and distribute land. A large number of land boards faced the problem of absence of chairmen and steps had been initiated to ensure a reasonable tenure to land board chairmen, said Mr. Rajendran. He pointed out that 63 land boards had been reconstituted. Monthly targets had been given to land boards for taking decisions on pending cases, he said. Earlier, the Minister visited the homes of those killed in recent violence in the district. The Minister assured them that he would try to impress upon the government to provide help to the nearest of kin of those killed. Pallipram Balan, MLA; CPI State council member E. Chandrasekharan and CPI district secretary T. Krishnan accompanied the Minister.
