‘Efforts to foment trouble’

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: The nexus between the police and the mafia existing in the district was the root cause of the recent clashes in the district which left four killed and scores injured, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has said. At a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Chennithala said the police had not been able to arrest the culprits behind the recent killings. “From my interactions with the family of those killed, it is evident that the police are aware of the identity of killers but they were not particular on arresting the culprits,” said Mr. Chennithala.

The KPCC president noted that as per information available to him the recent violence in the district was not strictly communal but the deliberate effort of a clutch of anti-socials to foment communal trouble and take advantage of the situation.
