VIZIANAGARAM: To make blind persons computer-literate and to get prints in Braille for epics like the Ramayana and the Maha Bharataa besides class textbooks, the Woman and Child Welfare Centre at Sreeramnagar (Garividi), installed a computer having Braille keyboard worth Rs. 12 lakhs at its school for visually impaired persons. It was inaugurated by Susila Bai, sister of R.K. Shroff, Chairman, Facor on Sunday evening. G. Nageswari, vice-president of WCWC told this correspondent over phone on Monday that the software was developed by Webel Media, Kolkota. With the installation of the computer the blind students have the opportunity to get prints in Braille in 13 languages. She said a printer worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs was arranged for the purpose. She said the foundation stone for two additional classrooms was also laid on the centre’s premises. Dharna stagedThe Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (APTF), district unit, on Monday launched indefinite dharna at the Collector’s Office demanding withdrawal of suspension orders served on three teachers in G.L. Puram mandal last week. General secretary of the federation Y. P. Sanyasi Rao said that the three teachers were victimized for the wrong done by Mandal Educational Officer. He blamed the District Educational Officer for acting under pressure from United Teachers Federation without inquiring into the allegations levelled by UTF. PRTU district president B. Venkata Rao and APTF (1938) district secretary P. Eswarudu and others extended support to the demonstrators.
