BERHAMPUR: Eighty five per cent of the total credit outlay in the annual plan of Ganjam district for 2008-09 has been earmarked for priority sector advances. It may be noted that Ganjam happens to be the home district of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The annual credit plan for the district was prepared by Andhra Bank, the lead bank of the district. According to R.N. Senapati, the Lead District Manager (LDM), the total credit outlay was Rs. 821 crores. Out of it, Rs. 693 crores was earmarked for priority sector advances. Agriculture finds place in the top in the list with an allocation of Rs. 409 crores, which was around 60 per cent of the total planned credit. A sum of Rs. 69 crores worth of credit has been allocated for the Small and Medium Scale sector. Ganjam district has a network of 25 commercial banks, one Regional Rural Bank (RRB) and four cooperative banks within its periphery.
