Chitradurga: The former MLA G.H. Tippareddy has brushed aside speculations that differences prevail in the Congress Chitradurga unit over allotment of ticket for the Assembly elections. He told presspersons after inducting Janata Dal (Secular) leader G. Ramachandra into the party here on Monday that its leaders were united and that there was no disagreement among them. He denied the presence of fissures in the city party unit after leaders M.K. Tajpeer and D.B. Raju were seen battling it out for nomination. “Since all Congress leaders have the right to seek ticket, the party has taken the matter in the right perspective. We are ready to support any candidate who is nominated to contest the polls,” he said. Electoral independenceHe dismissed opinions that in the event of his being denied ticket, he would contest as an independent. “There is no question of fighting the election as an independent candidate. I will campaign for any leader selected by the Congress high command,” he added. However, he expressed confidence that the party would nominate him to contest the polls as he had won the elections thrice consecutively. To a question on when the six zilla panchayat members representing the JD(S) would join the Congress, Mr. Tippareddy said they would be officially inducted during the visit of leaders such as M.P. Prakash. Defending his stand on joining the Congress, Mr. Ramachandra said that despite serving for over two decades, the Janata Dal (S) had failed to give due respect to its senior leaders. He said he had been associated with the Congress for a few years, but following some differences, he had to quit the party and join the erstwhile Janata Party. “I am not happy with the kind of developments taking place in the Janata Dal (S), which has forced me to join the Congress,” he said, and promised to work as loyal party activist. Congress leaders B.G. Srinivas and Rehman were present.
