JD(S) releases first list of candidates

Kumaraswamy, eight former Ministers in first list
JD(S) too facing unrest over denial of ticket

Bangalore: The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, eight former Ministers and 15 former legislators figure in the list of 64 candidates announced by the Janata Dal (Secular) for the first phase of the Assembly elections to be held on May 10.

Mr. Kumaraswamy was among the first to file his nomination papers from the Ramanagara Assembly constituency.

Remaining candidates

Sources in the JD(S) said that the top leaders of the party would meet again to finalise the candidates for the remaining 25 constituencies figuring in the first phase of polls.

Party president H.D. Deve Gowda told The Hindu that the anger among a section of partymen over the denial of ticket would subside over the next few days and exuded confidence that there would not be any rebel JD(S) candidate in the fray leave alone a major rebellion within the party. “It is a collective decision, and all aspects of each aspirant have been considered in detail before finalising the list.” The former Prime Minister spent the day pacifying party leaders from various constituencies who gave vent to their anger over denial of party ticket.
