Staff Correspondent

“Ensure maximum wheat procurement on support price”

Wheat to be supplied to the poor at Rs.3 per kg

Make immediate payments: Shivraj Singh

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has asked the Commissioners and Collectors to ensure maximum wheat procurement on support price for the success of Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana. Under this scheme, wheat is to be supplied to poor families from fair price shops at Rs.3 per kg.

The Chief Minister has asked the officials to work on a war footing for maximum wheat procurement. Issuing instructions for immediate payment to farmers, Mr. Chauhan has asked the authorities to make extensive arrangements for transportation and storage of wheat.

The Chief Minister has also issued a firm warning and said that police cases would be registered and strict action taken on complaints of underpayment. Under the State Policy, farmers in Madhya Pradesh would be paid Rs.1,000 as support price and Rs.100 as additional bonus for each quintal of wheat procured from them.

The Chief Minister issued these instructions to all the commissioners, collectors and other officers through video conferencing on Sunday. He told the officers that while touring different parts of the State he would be inspecting the progress on the procurement front. He asked the officers to inspect mandis and collect samples of wheat being sold for less than Rs.1,100 per quintal.

The State Government has fixed the target and arrangements have been made to go for a record procurement of 25 lakh tonnes of wheat from farmers across the State. So far, 4.50 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured.

After the formal launch of Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana in Bhopal and Indore on April 26, the scheme aimed at providing foodgrains at highly subsidised rates to poor families would be launched at every district headquarter by organising “Garib Sammelans”.
