96% attendance for engineering entrance

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The engineering entrance examination-2008 got off to a start on Monday at 272 centres in the State and outside with 96 per cent attendance; as many as 98,819 candidates appeared for the paper-1 Physics and Chemistry. A total of 1,02,576 candidates have registered for the engineering entrance examinations.

In every major centre, except those in New Delhi, more than 95 per cent of students who had registered, turned up for the examination. There were 268 venues in Kerala, three, in new Delhi and one, in Dubai. The examination commenced at 10 a.m. and concluded at 12.30 p.m. Candidates had to report at 9.30 a.m. at the respective venues to receive instructions on filling up the OMR data sheet.

The test was held at 37 venues in Thiruvananthapuram. For the first time, four colleges were designated as centres for the examination — Government Arts College, Government College for Women, University College and Government Sanskrit College. A total of 13,673 candidates wrote the entrance examination in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

The Paper-2 (mathematics) of the engineering entrance examination will be held on April 22 at the same venues. A press note issued here by the office of the CEE said candidates who appear for only one of these two papers would be disqualified from the entrance examinations.
