THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Food Corporation of India (FCI), South Zone, has denied that it had let out any godown to the Reliance group for storing rice or wheat. Refuting the contention of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan (published in The Hindu on April 17), the FCI said in a release that the Reliance did not have any connection or dealings with the FCI. The company was not allowed to procure rice and wheat and store them in FCI godowns. As per memorandum of understanding entered into with the Government of India, FCI is bound to earn revenue by renting out the godowns to private parties in South Zone. But in Kerala, such godowns were given with the pre-condition that no party will store wheat and rice in them, the release said.
