Sagar shocks Bagirath
BANGALORE: Qualifier Sagar Manjunath of Karnataka shocked fifth seed S. Bagirath of Andhra Pradesh 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the boys’ under-18 singles in the KIMS -AITA Talent Series junior tennis championship, which got underway at the KIMS courts, here on Monday.
In another upset, Rohan Gaoankar beat eighth seed Vishnu K. Jinan 6-3, 6-0.
The top seed, Ram Gautham of AP prevailed over Vishwanath Savadi of Karnataka 6-1, 7-5.
All seeded players, including third seed Ravina Shetty, fourth seed Likitha Devaraj and fifth seed Nivedita Srinivas, won their respective opening ties.
In the boys’ under-14 singles, fourth seed Madhav Venkataswamy prevailed over lucky loser Nischal of Karnataka 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-0.
