Major accident averted

A major accident was averted to the chariot of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam which was taking in a procession the utsava idols of goddess Kanakadurga from Sitara Centre to Chittinagar to mark the conclusion of Chaitra Masa Brahmotsavams on Monday. A lorry going towards Gollapudi and approaching the chariot in the opposite direction suffered failure of brakes and ran amock. Sensing the danger, workers of the temple who were walking in front of the chariot ran helter skelter. The lorry driver, with a presence of mind, managed to steer the vehicle towards the other direction of the road and hit a stationary auto-rickshaw there.
