Staff Correspondent
TUMKUR: Protests were staged in Tumkur, Gubbi, Pavagada, and Turuvekere in Tumkur district on Monday against political parties issuing tickets to “outsiders” to contest these Assembly seats.
The offices of the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress were attacked by supporters of aspirants who were denied nomination. Police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the protesters. Twenty-three candidates filed nominations on Monday.
They included G. Parameshwar of the Congress who filed his nomination papers from Koratagere constituency and JD(S) nominee B. Satyanarayana, who filed his papers for the Sira seat. Rafeeq Ahmed Shaik, Congress nominee from Tumkur City, and B.K. Manjunath, BJP nominee for the Sira seat, also filed their nominations.
