MDMK splinter group withdraws petition

New Delhi: With the splinter group led by L. Ganesan and Gingee Ramachandran withdrawing its petition staking the claim that it was the original Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Election Commission on Monday disposed of the petition.

The party led by Vaiko will retain the name MDMK and its flag. The splinter group had approached the Commission claiming it had majority support as demonstrated in the general council meeting held by them.

In response to notice from the Commission, Mr. Vaiko produced video documents and other materials to show that the party led by him was the real MDMK.
