Focus on ‘real’ issues

The growth of health care as a lucrative industry in the State’s private sector has spawned an interest among the public to know more about the latest developments in the field, lifestyle-related diseases as well as healthy living.

This explains the market presence and popularity of a large number of health magazines in the regional language. Almost all media houses in the State have a dedicated health magazine in the vernacular, apart from special pull-outs on health in the dailies.

However, what is sad is that most of these magazines tend to focus more on titillation rather than serious issues of health or the health care sector in the State.

One notable exception is ‘Nammude Aarogyam,’ the magazine brought out by the Indian Medical Association, that focusses more on public health issues and the leading trends in the medical industry.
