“Harbour will bring industries to Karaikal”

KARAIKAL: Karaikal region in the Union Territory of Puducherry is poised for a major development in the field of industries and allied activities in the next few years, said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, here recently.

Inaugurating a newly-renovated ‘kalaiarangam,’ an auditorium named after late veteran comedian K.A. Thangavelu at a cost of Rs.78 lakh by the Karaikal Municipality and also opening the Karaikal municipal staff quarters and a community hall, Mr. Rangasamy said that the Centre had allocated Rs.1,500 crore for Puducherryfor the current year for various development activities and the amount would be allocated to Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions.

The CM pointed out that the construction of a harbour in Karaikal was under way and after its completion the region would see a major development and several industrial establishments would come up at a total cost of Rs.1,000 crore.

R. Prabhavathy, chairperson of Karaikal municipality, A. Marimuthu and A.M.H. Nazeem, MLAs, and N. Vasanthakumar, Collector spoke.
