Spurious IMFL bottles seized, seven held

KARUR: A special police team busted a gang involved in the distribution and sale of spurious liquor in the district and arrested seven persons in a swoop on Tuesday.
Police said that during routine inspection, two persons identified as A. Chandrasekaran (35) and M. Tamilan (30) riding a motorcycle were intercepted and questioned near T. Vellalapatti. A search of their vehicle resulted in the seizure of 48 bottles containing spurious IMFL.
Based on their information, a police team raided a farmhouse near Muthuladampatti near here and unearthed hundreds of more such bottles containing spurious IMFL. The search of a car parked there led to the recovery of 576 more bottles.
A total of seven persons have been arrested in this connection. They included N. Muthukumar (29), S. Raja (29), S. Ravi (36), P. Kanagasundar (29) of P. Sellandipalayam, and P. Ramalingam (35) of C. Vellalapatti apart from the duo riding the motorcycle.
A total of 901 bottles containing spurious brew were recovered while a car and five two-wheelers used for transporting the contraband were seized from the arrested persons. A special police team has been formed under the leadership of ADSP A. Nizamuddin to nab a suspect who is at large. The DIG, Tiruchi Range, Ashok Kumar Das, inspected the seized material and lauded the team for nabbing the culprits.
