VILLUPURAM: P. Sumathi (40) and her nieces Sathya (17) and Saranya (13) drowned in a lake at Kedar near Ginjee on Monday.

The police said that the girls, whose father is employed as a mechanic in Delhi, had come down to their grandmother’s house at Poovarasankuppam for vacation.

After spending 10 days there, they went to their aunt’s place at Kedar.

When Sumathi was washing clothes, the girls entered the lake and drowned in the deep water. Sumathy tried to rescue the girls but she too drowned. The bodies were brought to the Villupuram Government Hospital for post-mortem.
