Kakinada-Samalkot road work under way: MLA

Steps on to relocate people living along the existing stretch

Kakinada: Kakinada MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna said that the process of expanding the Kakinada-Samalkot road into a four-lane highway is being expedited by the Roads and Buildings Department.

Necessary steps to relocate those living on both sides of the existing road are being taken, he told reporters here on Tuesday.

Housing

Expansion of the road, for which a survey is underway, would facilitate faster movement of the vehicles to Samalkot. The existing road was too narrow for smooth flow of traffic and the situation was compounded by the plying of heavy commercial vehicles. It has been a long pending demand of urban poor of Kakinada, which is on verge of taking shape. Mr. Gopalakrishna said that he was actively pursuing the proposal for construction of houses, which would accommodate 10,000 families, at two places on the fringes of the district headquarters. A total of about 100 acres is being acquired for the purpose at Jagannaickpur and Swami Nagar and steps for compensating the land owners are in progress. The district Collector has given the administrative clearance for the project, paving the way for the poor people’s dream to be realised. Other modalities of the project are being worked out, the MLA added.
