Mr. Ramamoorthy also demanded fixation of daily allowance at Rs.80 for valuation teachers residing within a radius of 8 km around the valuation centre.

Known as ‘local teachers’ in official parlance, these teachers were not eligible for travelling and dearness allowance, but a meagre allowance, he said.

The State president of the Association, S. Ezhumalai, wanted transparency in the counselling for transfer of teachers to commence during the vacation.

The Education Department should bifurcate the high and higher secondary sections, appointing separate Headmasters for each unit to bring out efficiency in both administrative and academic work.

Their other demands included immediate introduction of equitable education; appointment of separate teachers for handling Physics, Chemistry and Biology for SSLC classes; withdrawal of Contribution pension scheme and fixation of teacher-pupil ratio at 1:30.
