CHANDIGARH: There will be no shortage of electricity in Haryana by the year 2010 with the State Government proposing to add 7,000 MW generating capacity by constructing thermal power projects of 5,000 MW capacity at a cost of Rs.24,000 crore and making purchase agreements for 2,000 MW from other States for 25 years, Haryana Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala asserted on Tuesday. Addressing media persons at Sirsa before starting a daylong tour of the district to inaugurate eight power sub-stations of 33 KV level and to lay the foundation stone for two other sub-stations of 33 KV level, he claimed that the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government would be the first in the country to add 7,000 MW capacity in three years. Mr. Surjewala further disclosed that the State proposes to spend Rs.920 crore on strengthening the power transmission system. The power utilities would construct 127 new sub-stations and augment the capacity of 100 existing sub-stations all over the State, he added. Also, the Government has chalked out a plan to strengthen the power distribution system to ensure better service to consumers. To minimise interruptions in the distribution system, the Distribution Corporations would bifurcate and trifurcate 225 overloaded and lengthy 11 KV feeders supplying power to urban as well as rural areas. The load of about 650 feeders, supplying electricity to domestic and agriculture sectors in rural areas, is being segregated in order to ensure extra fault free power supply to the domestic category consumers.
