Eshwarappa refutes charge of trading party ticket for money

Staff Correspondent

Says no BJP candidate can contest in two places

DAVANGERE: The former Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader K.S. Eshwarappa has said the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) have only indulged in maligning the BJP by creating rumours that BJP leaders had demanded several crores of rupees from aspiring candidates for party ticket.

He said the BJP was a disciplined party and its leaders would not stoop to such levels. He charged the Congress with such practices instead.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Eshwarappa said both Congress and Janata Dal (S) leaders were not able to stomach the rising acceptance of the BJP among the people of the State, and to create confusion and misunderstanding, they had been making false accusations against it.

To a question, the BJP leader clarified that no leader in the party would contest in two places and added that it was a policy decision.

He expressed confidence that his party would get a majority in the coming Assembly elections and form the government. He said the BJP would rest on its credentials and achievements as part of the previous coalition government.

He also said it would reiterate the “betrayal” by the Janata Dal (S) at its campaign. He said the former police officer Subash Bharani had joined the BJP after realising that the party had greater credentials than others.

He said Mr. Bharani had understood that there was no internal democracy in the Congress and that he would be sidelined despite being ableDavangere MP Siddeshwar and the former Minister S.A. Ravindranath were present.
