170 bags of PDS rice seized

Krishnagiri: District supply officials seized 170 bags of rice worth Rs.1 lakh meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS), which was being smuggled in a lorry at Kaveripattinam near here on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, a team were conducting vehicle checks at Kaveripattinam when they intercepted a lorry and seized the rice bags. The lorry was going from Dharmapuri to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing in the open market. The lorry was handed over to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation. The Food cell police have registered a case and are investigating.
