FOR A CAUSE: AITUC activists taking out a rally in support of unorganised workers in Puducherry onTuesday. PUDUCHERRY: Activists of the Puducherry unit of the All India Trade Union Congress took out a rally on Tuesday demanding various welfare measures for the unorganised and migrant workers. A release said that the rally started from the old bus stand and ended near the Assembly complex. The rally, led by Puducherry unit president R.Viswanathan and general secretary V.S. Abishekam, highlighted the demand that all unorganised workers should be identified and registered in a welfare society. It also urged the government to come up with schemes to provide social security and pension for the unorganised workers. Job security should be ensured for migrant workers, it added. According to a survey, 94 per cent of the labourers were unorganised workers but they had no job or social security. All categories of workers in the unorganised sector should be allowed to become members of the welfare associations formed by the government, the release said. The AITUC also urged the government to carry our enumeration for migrant workers.
