Students groups formed to raise AIDS awareness level

For healthy life: A rally was taken out to create awareness among people on HIV/AIDS as part of the Legal Services and AIDS Awareness Core Group Camp at Komarapalayam in Namakkal district.

NAMAKKAL: Students Legal Services and AIDS Awareness Groups have been formed in the district to raise the level of awareness among people about the disease.

The groups, each consisting of 50 students, will conduct programmes to spread awareness on AIDS prevention and control.

The initiative was launched during the Legal Services and AIDS Awareness Core Group camp held in Komarapalayam recently.

The camp was organised through the District Legal Services Authority and Tiruchengode Taluk Legal Services Committee. A massive rally was taken up as part of the camp.

The rally, which began at the bus stand, passed through several parts of the town before concluding at the camp venue. Over 2,000 students and members of self-help groups took part in the rally.

A counselling centre for the town was also inaugurated during the camp.

Principal District Judge A. Ratnavelu presided over the camp and answered queries raised by the students and women during an interaction programme.

Superintendent of Police John Nicholson and Namakkal Government Hospital Resident Medical Officer R.P. Elango also spoke.

Judicial officers, advocates and senior officials were present during the camp.
