Techies make ‘The Myth’ real

Special Correspondent

A Technopark team comes up with a movie on the capital’s history

Look into history: The film crew at work during the shooting of ‘The Myth’ at a location in Thiruvananthapuram.

Thiruvananthapuram: When Bijoy, Prasanth and their seven colleagues at the Technopark-based SunTec Business Solutions decided to take a break from project deadlines and bug fixing, they chose cinema to express themselves. Chasing their wildest dreams, the software professionals have come up with a full-length movie ‘The Myth.’

It all happened some time back when the group, all movie buffs, came together to watch critically-acclaimed films. The banter soon drifted to serious discussion, and they thought aloud. Why not make a movie? The first attempt was a 30-minute film called ‘The Shadow’ which was screened at Technopark. The whopping response was a huge incentive and the idea for ‘The Myth’ was born.

For this the team delved into the history of the erstwhile State of Travancore. Cutting down on party-hopping and wriggling through their tight schedules, they worked hard to weave it into a 75-minute-long screenplay. The team used a high definition video camera to shoot the film.

Skills to the fore

Says director-duo Bijoy-Prasanth, who did the script and screenplay for the movie: “In around 60 days, working through the weekends for this project, we discovered our acting, shooting and editing skills.” The storyline takes the viewer back to the time when Thiruvananthapuram was the capital of the erstwhile Travancore kingdom. It talks about the glorious and intriguing history of the centuries-old city, and the links to its present face.

“Historical themes have always found appeal among film lovers in Kerala. But we have tried to be different, and are trying to convey that history has a role to play even in the present world,” explains Prasanth. The entire work was handled by the team with professional advice in some areas.

“The movie tries to highlight the greatness of our ancestors. It is a tribute to their foresight in planning and developing the city,” Bijoy added. The team is busy with the dubbing and editing works as the film gets ready for release. The trailer will be screened during the Tech-a-break festival.

‘The Myth’ was shot entirely in Thiruvananthapuram. The actors in the film are also from SunTec. Praveen R is in the lead role. Praveen Kaimal, Anish R. Panicker, Balu R.S., Mathew Cherian, Anand S. and Prashanth Nair are supporting artistes. Music is by Babith and Balu R S. While Prabhath wielded the camera, Axel did the editing work.
