NEW DELHI: A special CBI court here has rejected a bail plea by CBI Inspector Dinesh Kumar Thakur who was arrested on charges of accepting bribe for letting off an accused in the multi-crore slum rehabilitation scam involving prime accused Ashok Malhotra. Special CBI Judge I. K. Kochhar rejected the bail plea saying investigations were at an early stage and that the accused might try to influence investigations if he was released on bail. The court said the allegations levelled against the accused were serious. Earlier, moving his bail plea, Thakur’s lawyer had argued that the complainant in the case, Kusum Sehgal, who claimed to be running a non-government organisation, was in the habit of getting FIRs lodged against people due to vested interests. He argued that even the Delhi High Court had fined her Rs.5,000 for making such false complaints. Kusum, who claimed she was the foster sister of one of the accused in the case, Atul Vashishtha, a clerk with MCD, had alleged that the inspector had demanded Rs.3.5 lakh from Vashishtha for not arresting him.
