CHANDIGARH: In view of an increase in the Consumer Price Index, the Punjab Government on Tuesday announced an increase in the minimum wages with effect from March 1, 2008. According to an official spokesman here, the minimum wage for an unskilled worker has been raised to Rs.100.51 on a daily rated basis and Rs.2620 for the monthly rated. The spokesman said that the daily rate of wages for an agricultural worker would be Rs.94.61 with meal and Rs.104.31 without meal. An official release said all industrial establishments, including those in the unorganised sectors, had been informed of the new rates. The spokesman clarified that the revision of minimum wages which was being carried out by the Minimum Wages Board was also under way.
