Rs.10-crore plan for tourism development

Centre’s help to be sought for developing tourist spots in Nagapattinam 11 lakh people visited the district last year: Collector
NAGAPATTINAM: The district administration has proposed to submit a Rs.10-crore plan to the State Government for the development of the two tourist spots of Poompuhar and Tarangampadi in the district, said Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Collector, on Sunday.
Addressing a valedictory function of the ‘Indira Vizha’ (Chitra Pournami vizha) at Poompuhar on Sunday, the Collector said that it would seek the assistance of the Centre for developing the tourist spots in the district.
He said that nearly Rs.35 lakh was spent for the development of the Art Centre in Poompuhar.
The Collector who also inaugurated a children’s park at Poompuhar at a cost of Rs.15.90 lakh said that nearly 11 lakh tourists, including 17,000 foreign tourists, visited various parts of the district last year.
U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, who inaugurated the festival on Saturday said that the Government was according top priority for tourism development in the State to attract more tourists from various parts of the country and abroad. M.K. Periasamy, MLA,, A.Annadurai, District Revenue Officer, Elangovan, Tourist Officer, P.Muthiah, District Information and Public Relations Officer, Nagapattinam and others spoke.
