Staff Reporter
The college claims that the dues ran to more than Rs. 3 crore
BANGALORE: D. Devaraj Urs Medical College at Tamka, in Kolar district has filed a petition against the State Government alleging that the Government had failed to clear the course fees of medical students who had joined the college in 2003.
The college claimed that the dues now ran to more than Rs. 3 crore.
It said despite several representations, the Government had failed to clear the dues.
The petitioner, said it had admitted students to the medical course in 2003-04 after the Government had promised to pay their fees. It said the Government had brought out a notification undertaking to pay the fees of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) students and those coming under category 1 who had been admitted to private professional colleges.
The college said the authorities, including the officials of the Department of Medical Education, had failed to act despite repeated requests.
Fee unpaid
It said the fees of SC/ST and category 1 students had remained unpaid till now. It urged the court to direct the State to pay the fees. The High Court ordered issue of notices to the State and the Directorate of Medical Education and adjourned further hearing on the matter.
