Memorial for Chandra Shekhar

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: The Kerala government is actively considering setting up an autonomous educational institution in Attappady in memory of the former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.

He had set up a Bharatha Yathra Centre at Attappady as part of his Padayatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir as a leader of the Janata Party in the 1980s. Chandra Shekhar used to visit the tribal area and stay there during his visits to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

His family members were approached by N.N. Krishnadas, MP, to get the centre’s land for setting up the memorial. The family is learned to have surrendered the centre to the State government for setting up a memorial.
