YSR meets Baalu on shipyard proposal

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy called on Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways T. R. Baalu here on Tuesday and discussed the modalities for setting up an international-level shipyard on the East-Coast.

It may be recalled that the Government of India proposes to set up two international level Shipyards – one on the East Coast and the other on the West Coast.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has offered to make available 2,000 acres of land within next six months free of cost to the Centre for the development of the shipyard. It has proposed to develop the shipyard at Vodarevu Port in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Baalu told the Chief Minister that the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways was ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to chart out a detailed road map for the development of the proposed shipyard.
