Ensure defeat of BJP candidates: CPI (M)

Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) has appealed to the people of Karnataka to vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the State Assembly elections.

Nityanandaswamy, member of the party’s Karnataka State Executive Committee, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the party was going all out to prevent the BJP from coming to power in Karnataka.

Mr. Nityanandaswamy said that during the 20 months that the BJP shared power in Karnataka, it had instigated riots in the Karavali region. He alleged that BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition Government had withdrawn all cases against those who had perpetrated violence in the region. The CPI (M) leader said the BJP was harping on implementing the “Gujarat model of administration” if the party was voted to power in Karnataka. “In Gujarat, the Narendra Modi Government was responsible for killing over 2,000 Muslims. None of the culprits have been punished,” he said and added that the CPI (M) was contesting only 11 of the 224 seats. The party would appeal to the people to elect its 11 candidates and to vote against the BJP candidates in the remaining 213 constituencies. “You can choose any candidate of your choice, not necessarily Congress. But, please ensure the defeat of the BJP candidates,” Mr. Nityanandaswamy said.
