Vigilance arrests doctor
KOCHI: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested an orthopaedic surgeon, Sudhir Shafeer, 36, while allegedly collecting Rs. 500 as bribe from the relative of a patient. Vigilance sources said the accused demanded Rs. 5,000 to treat the father of the complainant, Krishnakumar. Parameswaran was admitted to the General Hospital with fractures sustained in a motor accident on April 11. The accused allegedly demanded money for treatment and issuing the medical certificate for insurance. The amount was brought down to Rs. 3,000 and then to Rs. 2,500.
