Defamation case against Chief Minister quashed

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday quashed a defamation case pending before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court, Thiruvananthapuram against Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in connection with publication of a news in Desabhimani in 2001.

The defamation case was filed against Mr. Achuthanandan in his capacity as Chief Editor of the newspaper. The court also quashed the defamation cases filed against K. Mohanan, Editor, and P. Karunakaran, printer and publisher.

The criminal proceedings were initiated on the basis of a complaint filed by G. Kamalamma of Vithura.

According to her, the news that appeared on November 24, 2001 was defamatory.
