SALEM: Cadres of Pasumai Thayagam and a few other outfits along with the people formed a human chain here on Tuesday to make people aware of the ill effects of global warming.
The members carried placards denouncing various acts that cause ecological disasters.
They asked the people to shun the materials that emit carbon dioxide and opt for compact fluorescent bulbs.
People should use public transport system increasingly instead of individual vehicles and prefer bi-cycles to motor bikes. Plastic materials should be totally avoided.
Greening the lanes and streets was essential to minimise the global warming.
The cadres also sought signatures from the public for their effective participation in minimising the global warming.
State Deputy Secretary, Pasumai Thayagam, Kshathriya Sekar, led the human chain which was inaugurated by K. Shanmugam, District Panchayat Chairman.
