CFA Youth team beats City Police, enters final

Nazareth: Chennai Football Association Youth team entered the final of the 74th annual Canon Margoschis memorial Trophy State-level football tournament defeating City Police, Chennai by the odd goal in three here on Tuesday.

Sasikumar (2nd minute) and Venkatesan (19th) scored for the Youth team, while Edwin Rose reduced the margin with a 56th minute stike.

Bastian shines

An unbeaten 66 by S. John Leslee Bastian helped Vignesh Sports Club defeat RVS Sports Club by ten wickets in the Canara Bank-Dindigul DCA first division league at Dindigul recently.

The scores:

First Division: RVS Sports Club 98 in 25.2 overs (G. Thangaraj four for 34) lost to Vignesh Sports Club 103 for no loss in 13.4 overs (S. John Leslee Bastian 66 not out).

Sri Vasantha Sweets CC 149 in 35.5 overs (T. Devendrakumar 40, R. Mohan Kumar four for 46) lost to Nike CC, Oddanchatram 150 for six in 28.5 overs (P. Rajesh 64 not out).

Second Division: Eleven Star CC 149 in 23.5 overs bt Eriodu CC 89 in 15.3 overs.

Third Division: Mansur CC 252 for seven in 23 overs (N. Muthu 78, K. Mohamed Riyas 109 not out, Karthick Prakash three for 32) bt Infant Jesus CC, Vedasandur 90 in 16.3 overs.

Ganesh scalps five

Ganesh (five for 18) helped Melbourne Cricket Club defeat Majestic Cricket Club by 54 runs in the Tirunelveli DCA First Division league at Sankarnagar recently.

The scores:

Melbourne CC 142 for nine in 20 overs bt Majestic CC 88 in 16.1 overs (Krishnan 52, Ganesh five for 18).

India Cements CC 169 in 33.2 overs (Pradeep 51) lost to GK CC 170 for nine in 31 overs (Senthil Kumaran 62, Gomathi Srinayagam 65 not out, Nataraj Shankar four for 13).

Melbourne CC 133 in 32.3 overs (Sakthi Karthick 42) bt IOB CC 100 in 20.1 overs.

Ganesh Babu triumphs

S. Ganesh Babu of Thiagarajar College, Madurai won the title in the Rotary Club of Sivakasi Pyrocity Open chess tournament, organised by Sivakasi Chess Club at Sivakasi recently.

He remained undefeated with 6 points from 7 rounds.

V.S. Sakthivel Pandian of Sivakasi Lions Mat. HSS won the u-13 title, while K. Hariraj of KVS Matric School, Virudhunagar won the under-17 title.
