KOTTAYAM: Thiruvananthapuram scored a seven-wicket win over Kollam in the South Zone under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Medical College ground on Tuesday. Needing 123 for a win off 30 overs, Thiruvananthapuram snatched the win with less than two overs remaining to be bowled. J. Nithin, with an unbeaten knock of 61, was the architect of the win, which earned Thiruvananthapuram four points. At the University stadium, Pathanamthitta denied Alappuzha an out-right win. Pathanamthitta, which started its second innings 116 runs in arrears, finished the day at 94 for eight after its innings was rocked by Rahul Remanan’s incisive spell (six for 33). Alappuzha took two points for the first innings lead. The scores: Kollam 143 &189 in 59.2 overs (J.Rahul 45 n.o., Farhan 34, Abhishek Mohan three for 45) lost to Thiruvananthapuram 210 & 123 for three in 28.1 overs (J.Nithin 61 n.o., R.Achin 30) Pathanamthitta 132 & 94 for eight in 50 overs (Rahul Remanan six for 33) drew with Alappuzha 248 in 82.2 overs (Rahul Remanan 34, Vishnu 34, Vignesh three for 26, Pranav three for 58).
