VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate the building of Indo German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT), a joint venture of the Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Germany and Gayatri Vidya Parishad, at the Kancharapalem Industrial Estate on Wednesday. Addressing a media conference on Tuesday, IGIAT president Kumaraswamy Reddy spoke about the genesis of the institute. He said that enhancing the employability of students was the main objective of the institute. The Government of Andhra Pradesh had allotted five acres of land and invested Rs.4 crores in infrastructure while the Government of Germany was investing more than Rs.15 crores in the form of equipment and training of faculty, and Gayatri Vidya Parishad was looking after the day-to-day management of the institution with a financial contribution of Rs.2.5 crores. He said that the institute had trained over 3,600 candidates since its inception in 2006. Founder-director of IGIAT P.S. Rao said that though thousands of technical candidates were being turned out by engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITI s in the State every year, their productivity was far from satisfactory compared to international students. Director of the institute V. Ramesh said societal transformation courses had also been introduced for the first time so that candidates who completed SSC and Intermediate could enhance their employment potential.
