Slow pace continues at medical PG counselling

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The counselling for admissions into post-graduate medical courses continued at a slow pace on the second day on Tuesday too at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences here, as candidates were taking more time than allotted in their eagerness to select the course of their choice.

While the authorities could fill only 33 seats on the first day, the process could be completed for another 70 seats by around 5 p.m. on the second day.

As almost all the seats in preferred courses like radio diagnostics and general medicine were already over, candidates are opting to take time at the counselling hall rather than making immediate choice from among other available courses.

The candidates seem to have no problem in opting for a seat in clinical courses like surgery, general medicine and radio diagnostics, but when it comes to opting for non-clinical courses like pathology and physiology, they are adopting a wait and watch approach.

In the process, considerable delay is being caused in the entire counselling process.

As per the arrangement, nearly 300 seats should be filled by the end of the second day, but the chances of doing so appeared remote despite the university authorities deciding to continue the process till late in the evening.

In the morning, some students raised objections to the allotment of BC-C woman seats to BC general category candidates at the 14th roster point in all the three university areas.

They contended that the records showed that it was meant for BC-C women only.

However, the authorities showed a GO to the effect that the seats could be allotted to BC-C general candidates at 14th roster point.
