NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has agreed to participate in the function to unveil the statue of Tamil poet Tiruvalluvar on the Delhi Tamil Sangam premises at R.K. Puram here. Early this month, authorities in Delhi granted permission to the Sangam to shift the statue installed at West Block at R.K. Puram to its premises. The statue was installed in 1975 in a corner of a land in the West Block. After a compound wall was erected, the statue had gone out of public view. Chief Minister thankedOn Monday, R. Mukunthan, secretary; P. Raghavan Naidu, joint secretary; and N. Santhanam, treasurer, met Mr. Karunanidhi at the Secretariat and thanked him for his efforts at getting the statue shifted to the Sangam premises. Mr. Mukunthan told The Hindu that they requested the Chief Minister to visit Delhi to participate in the function. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit were expected to take part. Announces grantHe said the Chief Minister readily agreed to attend the function scheduled for May and also announced a grant for construction of an arch at the entrance to the Sangam building.
