Remembering Gandhi

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To commemorate the 60th year of martyrdom of the Father of the Nation, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti organised a cultural programme here on Tuesday.

Students from various schools in the Capital took part in the programme by singing patriotic songs including the original composition of Vande Mataram. A special performance of “Battu”, an Odissi dance, by children from Gandhi Smriti’s vocational training centre “Srijan” was the highlight of the event.

Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti vice-chairperson Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, who is a grand-daughter of Mahatma Gandhi, gave away prizes to the schools that earlier participated in the inter-school musical competition for the Vande Mataram Rolling Trophy in January this year.

While the trophy was won by Delhi Public School Rohini, the second prize was awarded to Mater Dei School in Tilak Marg. The third prize winner was Army Public School in Sadar Bazar.
