“Sandana koodu” ritual held at dargah
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: A large number of Hindus and Muslims witnessed the ‘sandana koodu’ rituals at Kattubava Dargah housing the tomb of Sufi Saint Hazrath Syed Bawa Bahruddin Valiullah Basha at Kattubava Pallivasal village, about 35 km from here, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The holy sandal was taken around the Dargah, built by Arcot Nawab, in a flower-bedecked chair.
Amidst bursting of crackers and religious fervour, the devotees took the sandal paste to the ‘dargah’ where it was anointed on the tomb of Sufi saint.
The festival signifies religious harmony between Hindus and Muslims as a mark of respect to his valour in protecting the lives of six Brahmin women and two children from a gang of 14 robbers.
Legend has it that Kattu Bava killed seven robbers and made others blind.
Realising his divine power, the robbers repented and got their vision restored.
The ‘Ziyarath’ rituals were performed.
Special arrangements were made by the Jammath led by Sultan and its secretary M. Mohammed Fakkrudin and treasurer R. Noorudin Jalal.
