The anniversary celebrations of the Prasanthi School for Children with Special Needs at Karanthur on Tuesday was an occasion to remind society about the need to provide care and affection to children who suffered from mental disabilities and enable them to be self-reliant. Underlining the need for sustained efforts to help these children overcome their handicap, novelist C Radhakrishnan, who was chief guest, remarked institutions like Prasanthi school were special because they were engaged in such a noble endeavour and kept reminding society about the importance of giving love and care to those who really needed it. These schools were fountainheads of love, Mr. Radhakrishnan said. Those who supported the schools serving special children with money and materials were nurturing the growth of love and affection in society, Mr. Radhakrishnan remarked. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) T Bhaskaran inaugurated the anniversary celebrations. Lioness governor O.C. Manomohanan inaugurated the school’s website. Dr. Ramakrishnan Palat, managing trustee of Navajyothi Charitable Trust, which runs the school, presided. School Principal M.P. Mujeeb spoke. Prasanthi school was chosen for the State government award for schools for children with special needs two times in a row. R Madhavan Nair
